Reconnect With Your World: Quimixto’s Waterfall

by Marino Duran 4 months ago
written by Marino Duran 4 months ago

Hidden in the heart of Quimixto's jungle, this beautiful piece of earth created by nature will amaze you and its visitors with its fresh breeze and crystal clear water.

The journey starts from wherever you need it to begin; the pier, the beach or the town! The path to the waterfall and back is about 4.5km or 2.8mi, it takes you  122 meters above sea level and it’s a friendly hike for all skill  levels.

Quimixto is a beach town located in the South shores of the Banderas Bay. This small and picturesque beach town offers a great wave when Northern winds come into the bay (during winter). She features a beautiful and peaceful beach, a mellow river, and of course a majestic waterfall!

Your 30-40 minute hike up to the waterfall (the opportunity to travel there by horseback is also available) will raise your heart beat, will make you sweat, and will reconnect you with nature in a very unique way; you’ll be able to hear the sounds of  different birds such as parrots and macaws, you’ll feel the humidity of the jungle and the uneven, fairly friendly surface you’re walking on.  There is fresh water you will have to cross and you’ll be able to smell the dirt of the mountain and fill your lungs with the purified oxygen from the mountain and the beach together.  You’ll enjoy the view from a lookout point that gives you perspective of the bay and the altitude you’ve reached,  driven by your adventurous soul.

Once you reach the waterfall you will find a local restaurant/bar where you can enjoy a fish ceviche tostada and a cold Corona or the refreshment of your choice.  You can also just stop by to take some amazing photos, enjoy the breeze from the waterfall and/or dip into the clear and fresh waters of the river! We assure that any way you decide to spend your time here,  you will have a smile on your face and will be thankful for making the decision of doing something really good for yourself!

Since time is a finite resource you’re probably wondering how long will this adventure take? I’ll share this with you – the hike can take 35 minutes to the waterfall and approximately 30 minutes on the way back.  Once you’re up there enjoying a refreshment or the view, it  can take you about an hour to hang, so for this adventure consider a 2.5 hour time frame for your day. We hope it still gives you enough time to enjoy Quimixto’s beach and a rich Mexican lunch wherever you decide to refuel your energy!
